The Myth of the UK’s Axed Mandatory Digital ID Plans

By now, you’ve probably heard: The British Labour government is not bringing in mandatory digital ID. Rejoice! The freedom-loving Brit can breathe easy again, safe in the knowledge that no one will be asked to wave some creepy state-issued QR code at the pub. Or the supermarket. Or the job centre. Except, well…they sort of will. 

According to The Times, Labour is quietly yanking back the explicit demand for a national digital ID, but it’s the same way a magician might yank a tablecloth while keeping the cutlery exactly where it was.

BritCard was a Smokescreen; UK Government has Not Shelved Plans for Compulsory Digital IDs

The UK government confirmed it is scrapping the mandatory requirement for digital ID cards by 2029 – those opposing digital IDs celebrated. However, the devil is in the details. 

The government has only scrapped the “BritCard” scheme; it is still proceeding with plans to require some form of digital identification.

“By using the BritCard deception to misrepresent digital identity, the government provided the people with a loathed bogeyman they could easily defeat. The evident ploy was supposed to lull the people into accepting their digital identities by convincing them they had successfully rejected the fake BritCard version of digital ID,” Iain Davis writes. Russia’s Facial Recognition Programme Rolls Out to Primary Schools

Facial recognition as a biometric school entry system is already being tested in 20 schools in Russia. Alongside the use of facial recognition, the school grounds are fenced, cameras are installed along the perimeter and entry is through checkpoints.

As is the case with all rights and freedom destroying polices the world over, the Government claims this digital concentration camp is necessary to keep children safe while at school.

Britain, a country which practically invented the tenets of free speech, is now the most repressive, backward country of the West which is ridiculed on a daily basis by the very same countries that it regaled for its human rights record. There are just too many cases to rattle off which have at least made the news – social media, at least – but the mother who had police officers come into her house while she was in the bath to arrest her for calling an ex-boyfriend a ‘faggot’ has shocked many, given that the boyfriend in question beat her up and the message was not even sent to him. Elizabeth Kinney escaped jail but received a sentence involving community service and a considerable fine. Kinney was just one of around 12,000 people each year in the UK who are arrested and charged for giving their views about a given subject which the state deems could hurt someone, or in the case of politics, if it simply challenges a narrative. This farce would appear to have gotten out of hand when the long arm of the law even arrested and questioned right-wing hack Katie Holmes, who, during a stand-up comedy routine called herself a “spazza” and was subsequently detained for hours by UK police for the “offence”.
