Trump Just Gave Legal Immunity to Corporations that Poison America’s Food Supply

President Donald Trump just ordered the U.S. Department of Agriculture to make more poisonous glyphosate, while granting legal protection for makers of proven-dangerous herbicides like Monsanto’s Roundup.

Invoking the Defense Production Act, Trump on Wednesday designated glyphosate-based herbicides and elemental phosphorus as “critical to national defense” and ordered Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to prioritize and secure domestic supplies while also granting producers of these chemicals legal immunity from any lawsuits resulting from damage their products may cause to Americans’ health.

The World Health Organisation’s (“WHO’s”) International Negotiating Body (“INB”) continues to work on a draft that will be accepted by a sufficient number of countries.  To be adopted by the World Health Assembly, the INB needs 60 countries to ratify its text.
